Rebuilt an engine for one once that had just turned 300K, only failed as a bumble bee hit the radiator and the woman drove it till it overheated !. That was back in the late 1980’s…… the car is going yet, but not in daily use obviously. Same people still own it and he just passed away about 3 months ago. The car still runs like a Swiss watch.
I have a friend Currently restoring a 1982 300D, He bought it for something like €3000 and is getting all the work done by some guy up the country. the cost of the restoration is gone pear shaped with far more work and parts needed than budgeted for, he recons he will be lucky if he have it on the road for €20000
